4 Days, 5 Stars and a Whole Lot of Linen: My Start at Langtrees

4 Days, 5 Stars and a Whole Lot of Linen: My Start at Langtrees

Langtrees VIP Perth - Reception Area

When I joined Langtrees as an Office Allrounder in November 2025, Maryanne made it clear she wanted me trained in cleaning first, so I’d be able to make up a room to Langtrees’ exacting standard at any time of the day or night.

So before I ever sat behind a desk, I was handed fresh linen, shown how to make a bed properly, and introduced to the sparkling behind-the-scenes engine room that keeps Langtrees running at a five-star … possibly even six-star standard. And wow … the standard is high.

4:00am — Serenity, Coffee, and Questionable Life Choices
My alarm went off at 4:00am.
Not 4:30. Not “just one more snooze.” A sharp, soul-testing 4:00am.
I needed a full hour to become human — meditation to clear my head, and coffee strong enough to wake my ancestors — before my 5:30am start with Lakhone (affectionately known as La) and her team.

Now, I expected early-morning cleaners to look … well … like early-morning cleaners. I was very wrong.

These women arrived looking like they were about to step into a fitness campaign shoot. Activewear. Perfect hair. Flawless makeup. Not a smudge, not a yawn, not a single complaint about the fact that most of the world was still fast asleep. Meanwhile, I was just proud to be wearing matching socks.

The Glamorous Cleaning Crew You Never See
From 5:30am, when Langtrees is at its quietest, this incredible team moves like a well-choreographed dance troupe.
Bedrooms, two large lounges, offices, and even two big spa pools are all cleaned, reset, and styled to perfection before most people have had their first coffee.
And the laundry? Next level.

Half of Langtrees’ linen goes out to a professional laundry service. The rest is washed, dried, folded, and restocked onsite using industrial machines. Drivers and offsiders rotate through laundry duty, keeping the flow of crisp, fresh linen constant so every room is presented beautifully and hygienically for each new booking.

It’s hospitality at a luxury-hotel level — just with a far more intriguing theme.

Beds the Size of Small Countries
I thought I’d be good at this job.
Many years ago I had two jobs, so on late nights and weekends I cleaned for an upmarket Airbnb agency. Add to that the fact I’m one of those strange people who genuinely loves cleaning — give me a messy room and a spray bottle and I’m in my element.

But Langtrees beds humbled me.
Rooms like Golden Dreams and Sultan’s Tent feature enormous beds designed for… generous occupancy. Wrestling high-thread-count sheets onto those mattresses felt like trying to tame a parachute in a linen storm.

Every corner had to be tucked tight. Every surface smoothed. Not a wrinkle in sight.

Maryanne even replaced several mattresses during my week on the team and, true to everything at Langtrees, they were top-of-the-range, chosen for ultimate comfort and quality. So much thought goes into creating rooms that are sensual and inviting without ever feeling tacky or overdone. The result is elegant, effortless, and genuinely beautiful.

Industrial Tongs and Other Unexpected Tools
I will never forget the first time I saw the extra-long industrial tongs. The kind you’d expect in a commercial kitchen flipping giant steaks. Repurposed here for retrieving anything… questionable… without getting too close. I laughed. A lot. Practical, hygienic, and just slightly absurd — which honestly sums up many behind-the-scenes moments in this industry.

Breakfast at 10:30am (Which Is Basically Dinner in Cleaner Time)
By 10:30am, we were more than ready for lunch.

La — who somehow manages to be warm, energetic, and an amazing cook before sunrise — makes breakfast for the Langtrees ladies and staff at 5:00am every morning. Light, fluffy omelettes (a Mrs Langtrees specialty named scromlette) packed with finely chopped fresh vegetables and toast — the kind of food that feels like a hug.

Later, I’d heat up my omelette while the other ladies opened containers of incredible Laos and Thai dishes. I was lucky enough to sample a few, and let’s just say some of them cleared my sinuses and made me question my spice tolerance immediately. Completely worth it.

So Much Bigger on the Inside
One thing that surprised me most was how large Langtrees actually is. From the outside, you’d never guess the scale.
Two large lounges. A girls’ room. Offices. Numerous named bedrooms. Every floor vacuumed daily. Every surface gleaming. Every space cared for with pride and attention to detail, and through it all, the day-shift ladies and the reception and admin team were endlessly friendly and welcoming. There’s a real sense of teamwork — everyone understands their role in creating a safe, beautiful, professional environment.

Setting the Stage
I’m not new to the industry, and I genuinely love working in it. There was something special about being part of the preparation — cleaning and styling each room so it was ready for the beautiful women who choose this work and for the clients who visit Langtrees.
It felt less like “just cleaning” and more like setting the stage. Creating a space where people could step out of everyday life and into something a little more indulgent.

What I Learned in My First Week
I started the week thinking I’d just be learning how to fold corners on hotel-style sheets.

I left with a deep respect for professional cleaning at a luxury level, serious upper-body strength from wrestling giant fitted sheets, a new love for spicy Thai food, and huge admiration for the women — glamorous, kind, funny, and incredibly hardworking — who keep Langtrees running behind the scenes.

Most of all, I saw first-hand how much care, effort, and pride goes into maintaining the Langtrees standard. It isn’t accidental. It’s built every morning before sunrise by a team that truly cares.

And honestly, I feel pretty lucky that my first week on the job started there.
