Ending a 10-Year Pedicure Drought

Ending a 10-Year Pedicure Drought

Lynn - Langtrees Reception

I hadn’t had a pedicure in over ten years — the last one was for my brother’s wedding. A full decade. At that point, it was less about forgetting and more about actively avoiding it, like if I ignored it long enough it might resolve itself. With a bit of encouragement from Mary-Anne, I bit the bullet and finally booked in.

We’ve recently had Kim join us as a nail tech three to four days a week, which makes fitting this kind of self-maintenance in far easier for the girls who work here. Having it available on site removes most of the friction (and for me, the procrastination and creative excuses).

The appointment itself felt more like a quiet wellbeing reset than a standard nail session. Kim was easy to talk to, took her time, and created a calm, no-pressure space that didn’t feel rushed or transactional. It was relaxed, comfortable, and genuinely pleasant — which is not something I expected to say about a pedicure I’d been dodging for ten years.

I also hadn’t had my nails done in over three years. Shellac and I had a brief but toxic relationship, so this time I opted for BIAB, which is much kinder to nail health. The difference was immediate — my nails feel strong again, finished in a sparkly navy shade that somehow feels understated and indulgent at the same time.

Between finally ending a ten-year pedicure drought, trying BIAB, and doing it all in an easy, low-key setting, it was a genuinely positive experience. I won’t be leaving it another decade...

“This was such a relatable read because I’ve definitely put off little self care things like this for way too long and built them up in my head. It’s funny how something as simple as a pedicure can end up feeling like a proper reset when you finally do it. You’ve convinced me I should probably stop procrastinating and book one too babe xx

“Wow your nails look so good, nice choice of blue.
I completely understand how some nail experiences can put you off……but 10 years is definitely procrastinating lol.
Once you find the right place and right person for you it can become a lovely time out that just adds to the self care experience.
I love having a monthly foot rub and exfoliate, then the best part is picking a new colour that makes me happy to look at.
I also am a fan of BIAB, my nails are so much stronger and longer than when I was just using shellac. And the colour last much longer too, no chips or cracks which is amazing.

“Looks good, Lynn, nice colour. I hope they last you a while. My nails are naturally soft and thin, so I avoid manicures and keep them short.  A pedicure is one of my nightmares - not for me. Like Lana, I would probably kick the lady - no one can touch my feet.

“I love this! It is the little things that not only do for ourselves 💅 it’s just good for the nervous system. But also I think our clients appreciate the extra attention to detail. Whether it is the way we hold ourselves or even the way it matches our dress…. Book that next appointment gals! ❤️”

“I love having a monthly manicure and pedicure. No polish needed—just a clean, natural aesthetic with dead skin removed, and everything trimmed and shaped neatly.

I’ve noticed that when I had my nails professionally painted every three weeks, they became very weak over time.

Over time, this strips the nail plate, leading to Thinning, Peeling, splitting and Nails bending or tearing easily.

“Wow, they look so cute, Lynn!👌
I love doing my nails and everything that makes me look classy. When I worked for a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing), I used to see my friends spend a lot of money getting their nails done. I wanted to try it too, but my budget never allowed me. So, I started painting my nails and doing nail art on my own. 😍
However, nail extensions and intricate nail art have become very trendy lately. Now, at 50, this is only the third time I've ever paid for nail extensions. I've treated myself to them twice, and once, Mrs Langtrees encouraged me and covered the cost.

I used to have beautiful, long nails, but due to my diabetes, they became severely damaged. I was very worried until I discovered the cause of my nails turning black and peeling off. As we all know, nails reflect our health, so I consulted several dermatologists, but none could explain what was happening. Eventually, I learned that it was a result of my diabetes.”

“This is great to know xx
I am really pressed for time during the week so I can’t remember the last time I had my nails done. I will keep an eye on the times and have to book in before my shift one week 💓💅🏻

“I also found Kim to be such a lovely individual from the first moment, and I must say once again, wow, Lynn your nails turned out absolutely stunning. That sparkle is next level!! ✨
Truly, getting your nails done is one of those small luxuries that makes you feel instantly more put together and elegant. A must for any Langtrees VIP Beauty ❤️

I’m usually pretty minimal with anything on my toes, but although not quite close to a decade, this perfectly written post has put me in the mood for a good refresh, and soon! 🥰

You’ve definitely inspired me Lynn — I’m excited to finally book in and treat myself as well!

“A very relatable read. Sometimes the biggest hurdle with these things is just getting started, and having it available on site clearly makes a difference. Nice to hear it was a calm, straightforward experience — and that BIAB proved a better option. A solid reminder that it doesn’t have to be complicated to be worthwhile.”

“Really glad I got to both meet Kim and see the end results of Lynn’s beautiful sparkly nails!
It’s such a nice luxury to have the option to be able to get your nails done and certainly does complete a sophisticated look.
I don’t like much on my fingers but it’s been around 10 years since a pedi for me too!
I’m looking forward to treat myself with our skilled nail tech! Xx

“Love this!! I always get my nails done, they just help make me feel "complete". I have a nail tech I've been going to for over a year and a half, and it's nice when you can develop that kind of rapport with them. It's nice to look after yourself ”

“I am looking forward to trying a pedicure with Kim. I have regular a pedicure as I like to look after my feet and toes. I am extremely sensitive and am always on the look out for a beautician with the perfect touch. I must say she did a lovely job of painting your nails Lynn. Those dark colours will show up more flaws for the less experienced operator. I have just grown out the damaged fingernails from having shellac removed - I will see how you go with this BIAB and think about getting my nails done again. I do miss getting my fingernails done!!”

“Beautiful blue nails Lynn!  It's great you broke a ten year drought... I have been put off after some harrowing experiences with acrylics damaging my real nails however Kim is lovely & her work is fantastic so I might follow your lead and give nails another try. ”

“Omg 10 years since your last pedicure?! 😭

I think it’s been 10 years since I’ve not had a constant pedicure. I honestly don’t feel like myself without my nails and toes done — it’s such a big part of feeling put-together. Fresh nails and toes make me feel glamorous, confident, and beautiful, like I’ve got my life slightly more together than I probably do 💅✨

I’m so glad you’re back to the dark side!! 🖤

Here’s to choosing self-love, saying yes to pampering, and embracing a bit of glam just because we deserve it — not waiting another decade to treat ourselves 💫

“I love this so much - honestly, it made me want to book a pedicure immediately. Ten years is real commitment to avoidance. I used to get my nails done all the time until COVID forced a break, and that's when I realised how damaged they actually were. Fortunately they recovered, but by then I had gotten far too used to avoiding the whole boring sitting still for an hour with no phone or magazine to help pass the time. However after seeing how awesome your nails look and reading this I am seriously reconsidering. And if BIAB is healthier for nails? Even better.......I fear I'm about to be booked in

“This is a nice reminder that a little self care can go a long way! It's easy to put these things off, but taking the time to treat yourself is a nice little reset.
Having it right there in the locker room at work makes it even better!”
