Blogging for babes 101

Here are some quick tips and tricks to make your blogs as spicy as you! Did you know adding visuals to a blog can increase views by up to 94% and yes… I do have a link to back that up.

These images or videos can make your blogs more digestible and easier to understand for the everyday reader.

Images for blogs

As I’m sure many of you know people are visual creatures, and the right image can tell a story or help create connections with readers. When selecting images for your blog there are a few things to consider

The feature image

  • Think about your audience, chose an image they would be interested in and relate to.
  • Take an extra 5 minutes to make sure the image is suitable for the space you have. Currently the standard blog image size must be Landscape:500x300, portrait 300x400 or square: 300x300 pixels – is your image suitable for this or will the most important aspect get chopped during cropping.
  • Don’t choose an overly cluttered image, try going for something with an easy to identify focal point

Make it make sense girl!

The choice of image needs to match the overall tone of your blog. Is it a punny or humorous story about condoms (link to condom wrappers), is it tips for dealing with pushy customers (barbie blog).

Regardless, choose something that aligns with your writing.

Adding captions and Alt text

When uploading your images to the blog, take a minute to add alternative text to the image. They might not be able to see your gorgeous faces, but they can read ‘sexy red head lounging in bed’.

Alt text will also assist with SEO, which basically means Google will pick it up and make the page more visible. For those of you who know Mrs. Langtrees loves SEO – so do yourself a favour and fill out the Alt text!!

Quality over quantity

Babes, you all know this one. But on the technical side of things make sure your images are:

  • Clear and uncluttered
  • Well lit
  • Have a good resolution
  • Non-grainy or pixelated
  • Be less than 2MB in size
  • Correctly sized

Image sizing

Langtrees has created a simple guide to help image sizing for your blogs. This will make the blogs look more uniform to the viewer.

Other tips and tricks

Blog layouts

  • Your blogs layout should be clean and simple. Be sure to check it out on both desktop and mobile after posting to make sure your content is looking fire!
  • Be authentic and don’t write how you think people want you to sound. The audience is reading your blog to hear what YOU have to say.
  • Keep your headings simple and paragraphs short, because nobody likes a babbler.
  • Don’t forget to proof that bad boy before hitting post!

Call to actions (CTA)

Do you want readers to do something after reading your blog? This may be as simple as adding a call to action through the blog with a follow up at the end.

Langtrees has also introduced web banners for blogs which can be a great way to highlight your CTA. By using an image you can break up the text and highlight what actions should be taken.

And no, lets not use basic ‘book now on XXXX XXX XXX’ – get creative with your call to action!

  • Barbie - ‘take me out of the box’
  • Montana May – ‘book a ride with Montana today’

Resizing images

If you are regularly editing images, you might want to look into Adobe, these licenses can be pricy so if you are looking for some free alternatives, Pixlr and Canva are great options too.

And always remember the general rule  is to K.I.S.S – keep it simple sexy!

Thanks for reading!
